Seven games into the season and Barnet continue the search for a League Two victory as the Bees suffered a 1-0 defeat against Aldershot Town.

In truth, it was a game neither side deserved to win and little quality football was played throughout the contest.

However, the winning goal went the way of the hosts as Craig Reid fired into the corner from close range on 67 minutes.

Barnet boss Mark Robson named an unchanged side as he kept faith with the same starting XI which suffered a 3-0 loss against Bradford City.

Both teams began the contest poorly and neither side had any conviction when they did attack.

However, the Shots nearly opened the scoring as a deep corner was sent back across goal by Oliver Lancashire. Fortunately for the Bees, Ricky Holmes headed the ball off the line and Barnet managed cleared.

The Bees didn’t create much throughout the opening 45 minutes. Jamal Lowe sent a header over the crossbar before John Oster fired over from distance.

Adam Mekki came close for the home side as he cut in off the right-flank and smashed a shot narrowly over Stack’s crossbar.

The best passage of play in the half led to Barnet’s first real opportunity to open the scoring. A neat one-two beaten Holmes and Jordan Brown allowed the left-back to slide a through pass to Jon Nurse.

The striker fired a low strike towards goal but Jamie Young blocked well.

Bees defender Barry Fuller had to be substituted late into the half as he went off with a head injury. It forced a reshuffle as Clovis Kamdjo moved to right-back and Ahmed Adbulla came on in midfield.

Aldershot applied pressure late into the half but Barnet defended well and the teams went in level at the interval.

The Bees made a change at the break as Jon Nurse, who suffered an injury in the first half, was replaced by Academy graduate George Sykes.

The second period continued in the same vain as the first and neither side produced any spells of control.

Oster again came close with a strike from distance and Sykes offered the Bees a physical presence in attack.

Aldershot rarely threatened in the second period but with their first attack of the half, the home side went ahead.

Mekki chased down a pass on the right flank and managed to send a cross into the Barnet box. Reid reacted quickly get in front of Pearce and he coolly slotted past Stack.

Aldershot improved after breaking the deadlock and went in search of a second goal to secure the victory.

However, a combination of last ditch defending and poor, finishing gave the Bees a chance to rescue a point.

But the Aldershot defence remained solid and, bar a header from Sykes, the Bees didn’t look like grabbing an equaliser.

Ricky Holmes sent an effort well over the crossbar in stoppage time and this was another match that the Bees failed to create clear cut chances.

It leaves Barnet bottom of the League Two table with just one point accumulated from their opening seven games in the league.

The Bees will be hoping to kick-start their season when they welcome Rotherham United to Underhill.
