Anthony Joshua picked up Team GB’s third boxing gold medal of the Games this afternoon with a dramatic victory over defending champion Roberto Cammarelle.
The Watford-born star was level at 18-18 with the Beijing gold medallist at the end of the three rounds but was awarded the win on count back, surviving an appeal from the Italian corner to stand atop the podium.
The Finchley ABC fighter’s success in the super-heavyweight division brought the British gold medal tally to 29 for London 2012 and saw him follow in the footsteps of boxing team mates Nicola Adams and Luke Campbell.
It was a hugely impressive display from the 22-year-old, who only took up the sport four years ago but is now Olympic champion.
