Ten-man Edgware Town put in a spirited display to win 2-1 at Broxbourne Borough in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division.
The Wares were rocked by the dismissal of Rob Blackburne within ten minutes of the start, the referee ruling the keeper had handled the ball outside his area.
Vince Rispoli donned the goalkeeper's jersey and he was soon beaten by Tan Tezel, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
The Wares should have struck on 32 minutes. A cross into the area was handled by a defender and the referee pointed to the spot, but Lee Gardner's penalty was saved.
Edgware were finally rewarded seven minutes into the second half. The home keeper attempted to clear the ball from a back pass, but Phil Kane was running in and volleyed it back into the net.
With 15 minutes to go, Broxbourne were reduced to ten men when Daryl Mitchell saw red for foul and abusive language.
Richard Morton was twice denied before finally finding the net with a 20-yard thunderbolt with three minutes to go.
Borough captain Ross Edwards hit an injury-time consolation.
Edgware travel to Welwyn Garden City on Saturday before a Premier Division Cup clash at home to Leverstock Green on Tuesday.
