Relegation from the Football League is starting to look a certainty for poor Barnet.
The Bees lost both of their matches in the past week, including a massive ‘six-pointer’ against fellow strugglers Morecambe at Underhill on Saturday.
That was followed by defeat at Aldershot on Tuesday.
Now Barnet have just eight games left and they will probably have to win at least five or maybe six of them to stand any chance of beating the drop from League Two.
Re-enter Martin Allen.
In what chairman Tony Kleanthous has described as ‘the last throw of the dice’, Allen was this week handed the manager’s job until the end of the season.
He takes over from Paul Fairclough, who was handed the role on a temporary basis following Mark Stimson’s dismissal earlier in the year.
But Allen, who managed the Bees in the Conference some eight years ago, could not have a tougher start.
Barnet welcome runaway leaders Chesterfield to Underhill on Saturday, the match kicking off at 6pm due to internationals being played that afternoon.
He will also have to do without on-loan left-back Matthew Parsons.
He was sent off during the 1-0 defeat at Aldershot on Tuesday, after picking up two yellow cards.
It was another game that got away for the Bees.
Paul Fairclough’s side created plenty of chances, particularly in the first half, but were made to pay for not converting them, when the hosts struck against the run of play on the hour.
