It is a massive week for the men and ladies of Barnet FC.
While the lads have a crunch League Two relegation clash with Morecambe at Underhill this Saturday, the lasses have a cup final to look forward to next Thursday (March 24).
Barnet Ladies will take on Nottingham Forest Ladies in the FA Women's Premier League Cup final at Wycombe Wanderers FC (7.30pm).
The match is the ladies’ first national final since joining forces with Barnet FC in 1998. However, they did win the competition in 1996 under the name of Wembley Ladies FC, beating Doncaster Belles in the final. Barnet Ladies manager Tracey Kevins said: “We have targeted the League Cup this season as a competition in which we can do well. All of our matches to date have been highly entertaining affairs and I am sure the final encounter with Forest will fit into that category.”
The Bees progressed to the final by seeing off Portsmouth 2-1, with prolific goalscorer Stacey Sowden and Jess Trimnell on target.
Last season Barnet Ladies, who also reached the last eight of the FA Women's Cup by beating Birmingham City at the weekend, won the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division and reached the semi-final of the FA Women’s Cup.
Now playing in the national Premier Division, the Bees saw off another five Southern Division sides before the Pompey clash. In the group stages, the ladies progressed with a 100 per cent record, with wins against Colchester United (4-0), West Ham United (1-0) and Queen's Park Rangers (4-0). In the knockout stages, Barnet have defeated Brighton & Hove Albion (3-2) and Cardiff City (5-0).
Tickets for the game at Wycombe are priced £5 for adults, £2.50 for under 16s and over 65s, and can be booked from the Ticket Hotline on 01494 441118.
Meanwhile, Barnet's men will be looking to give their battle against relegation a massive boost by seeing off Morecambe.
The Bees beat Hereford United 2-1 at Edgar Street at the weekend, reigniting hopes that Paul Fairclough's side can beat the drop.
Barnet still sit in the bottom two, but Morecambe are now just six points ahead of the Bees.
Striker Izale McLeod grabbed a brace on Saturday, after Hereford had taken an early lead.
