When you are down, nothing goes your way.

That glum statement mirrors the situation at Underhill, after defeat to Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night.

Boss Paul Fairclough was left stunned as Barnet finished pointless after outplaying the promotion chasers comprehensively, writes Dominic Gover.

He now has to pick up 'shattered' players to prepare for the journey to Hereford United this weekend.

“We’ve got to pick ourselves up. We have nothing other than our league status to lose now. We need to crack on and throw caution to the wind, as all that’s left is for us to win games.

“You have to believe and you have to go and do it. I’ve got to look at the performance.

“If this was halfway through the season we would be saying ‘what fantastic performances’, after we went to one of the top teams in Rotherham and got a credible draw last weekend.

“Then we took another top team to the wire (Wycombe) and should have won.

"You’ve got to decipher the performance and not so much the result. But, in our case, the result is the be-all and end-all.

“There’s enough games on the table, but it’s looking much more difficult than it did,” he stated.

Wycombe plundered maximum points via Chris Westwood's header in first-half injury time.

And Chairboys’ keeper Nikki Bull turned in a match-winning display.

“Their keeper was the difference between the two sides with a couple of great saves,” said Fairclough.

“It was a big, big blow to come in behind at half-time after the shift we put in. We got everything right apart from putting the ball in the back of the net.

“It was a team at the bottom of the league playing a team that is going to get promotion, but you wouldn’t recognise a difference between them.”

Rossi Jarvis is banned for the trip to Hereford, after being sent off for two yellow cards on Tuesday, the second very harsh.

But that is how things go when you are down.
