Hertfordshire FA Boys U16s were held to a 1-1 draw against their Essex counterparts on Sunday.
The Herts youngsters would have fancied their chances against an Essex side who were looking for their first points of the season having slumped to defeats against Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire.
The draw sees Hertfordshire move into second place level on six points with leaders Suffolk but the Herts youngsters have played one game more.
Richard Hall put Essex in front through a free kick from 25 yards which beat Sam Singer in the Hertfordshire goal.
However, Hertfordshire equalised when Robbie Norris scored an unfortunate own goal in the second half to give the visitors a share of the points.
