BARNET can feel hard done by with this result, after they dominated all areas of the game except the most important one – taking chances.
Promotion-chasing Wycombe Wanderers did just that with Chris Westwood's header deep inside first half injury time. It was a simple finish for the unmarked Westwood, who converted Matt Bloomfield's corner.
Barnet remain rooted inside the League Two relegation zone as a result, while tonight's visitors at Underhill cement their place in the automatic promotion places.
Wanderers' keeper Nikki Bull was man-of-the-match, denying Barnet with a string of great saves.
Mark Hughes, Mark Marshall and Izale McLeod each thought they had scored at times tonight, only for Bull to thwart them.
Barnet's cause was not helped by the harsh dismissal of Rossi during the second half, for a challenge on Gareth Ainsworth which the veteran said afterwards did not deserve such a stern penalty.
Sixteen minutes into this game, Hughes' header rattled the bar from Marshall's cross during a bright opening by the hosts. It ushered in the sort of display boss Paul Fairclough would have wanted in the club's current plight.
Later, McLeod went so close to levelling just five minutes into the second half, when he pounced on Stuart Lewis' underhit back pass. Bull's outstretched leg sent McLeod's effort looping past the upright.
Marshall then drew a full-stretch save from Bull with a header, on 56 minutes.
Up the other end, Betsy blasted wastefully over after Kamdjo backed off him. Keeper Jake Cole had the easier evening of the two keepers, only it was him who ended up on the losing side.
With the goal cushion, Wanderers settled down into passing patterns inside Barent's half, after being laboured by the hosts own considerable prowess before the break. Barnet made the lion's share of chances all through this contest.
Wanderers showed few signs of their promotion credentials tonight. Heavily reliant on veteran Ainsworth, other creative outlets like Ben Stevens hardly got a touch of the ball.
Stopper Jake Cole got his first of action on 11 minutes, when he smothered Kevin Betsy's poked effort during a goal-mouth scramble.
Marshall impressed throughout in front of watching scouts from Championship clubs. One delicious pass midway through the second half with the outside of his boot sent McLeod speeding off into a one-on-one, but Wanderers' keeper Nikki Bull just beat him to the ball.
That was the story of a frustrating night at Underhill for boss Fairclough and his team.
With displays like this against one of the strongest teams in the division, Barnet should be confident of League Two survival.
But chances will need to be taken when they come along, in order for results to match performances and for the great escape to be possible.
