Barnet Elizabethans went through a roller coaster ride, with good and bad points interspersed, but were still too good for the Bank of England as the Byng Road side scored four tries, to gain the bonus point, without having their goal line crossed, even when BE were reduced to just 12 men in the final stages with three of their players sin binned for separate offences.
The victory took BE closer to second placed Fullerians, who lost at the weekend, and with one game in hand to close the gap even further.
BE started strongly and went ahead after two minutes: a textbook lineout catch and drive saw JONNO WILKINS score a try which JONNY HART converted (HART had a 100% success rate as he converted the three second half tries which sealed the victory).
But how BE made it difficult for themselves as they conceded dozens of penalties, especially in the second half, or kicked away possession.
Other first half scoring opportunities were lost as BE kicked too deep behind the away side's posts.
BE scored quickly after half time to double their lead when their backs took play up to the Bank 22 and prop MIGUEL GOMEZ drove over from 12 metres out.
The try which sealed victory came with a sound attacking move which MATTHEW NICHOLAS finished off with a strong run, typical of his play all afternoon.
On the left wing, GLYN BAYLEY had been threatening for some time but he roasted his opposite number with one run that ended with BAYLEY scoring the fourth try.
With HART adding all four conversions, BE were out of sight of the Bank who responded, limply, with two penalty goals. The Bank could not even score when they had a three man advantage in the closing minutes.
BE are away to Finchley on Saturday (BE won 15-3 last month at home) - kick-off is 3pm.
