Hendon’s Ryman League Premier Division fixture against Tonbridge Angels fell foul of the weather on Saturday morning.
It was the latest setback in a frustrating month for the Greens.
The persistent, heavy overnight rain resulted in the pitch being waterlogged and, despite the best efforts of the groundstaff, the match was called off before noon.
What was worse for Hendon is that they were denied probably their biggest home crowd of the season, and it would have come from a very unusual source. Birmingham City fans, coming to London for the Carling Cup final at Wembley, decided to go to a non-league match in the capital the day before and chose the Hendon v Tonbridge clash.
They expected around 200 Blues fans to visit Vale Farm, and Birmingham supporters also agreed to sponsor the match. This would have brought in much-needed revenue to club.
Hendon manager Gary McCann said: “This is so frustrating. People were working on the pitch at Vale Farm from 8.00am, trying to get it fit but it was all in vain."
