Barnet Elizabethans 22
London Nigerians 17

London Three North West League

A scrappy affair at windy Byng Road on Saturday ended with Barnet Elizabethans earning a late bonus point for their fourth try against London Nigerians.

The win and the extra point helped the Barnet side to leap up to third place in the league table after other results went in their favour.

The wind did not help either side but it was a disjointed match with frequent breakdowns in play.

The visitors defied their lowly position by scoring inside the first minute and adding two other tries when Barnet had brought the score to parity, but it took a late try from Cos Harris to secure the win and the bonus point.

After conceding that early try, Elizabethans had to work hard to level the scores, none more so when they went for a pushover try before, eventually, Lee Gray touched down.

There were strong runs from Glyn Bayley, Sean Blake and James Davies but nothing that took Barnet close to scoring again.

Just before half-time, the away side scored a second try, converted under the posts, to lead 12-5 but Barnet were back level shortly afterwards: another scrum drive saw Gray break off for his second try, converted by Jonathan Hart.

Back came Nigerians and they squeezed a third try before a flowing hosts' move saw Bayley through for a try.

Then came Harris' winning try.

Elizabethans are at home on Saturday to neighbours Finchley. This match was postponed from 4th December because of snow. Kick off is 2.30pm.
