Some of England’s top goalkeepers have joined forces in the launch of a string of goalkeeping schools with the aim of raising the standard of goalkeeping in the UK.
The brainchild of Brentford keeper Richard Lee, GK Icon will turn aspiring, young goalkeepers into world-class shot-stoppers.
One of his schools is based at Barnet Powerleague on Friday nights.
GK Icon goalkeepers will have four course options available to them, each one varying in length from three to 36 weeks, plus tailor-made courses made available where requested.
Keepers of all ages will be given the opportunity to receive training from fully-qualified keeper coaches and form close ties with professional clubs and leading sports agencies.
Drawing on the knowledge and experience of some of the nation’s best goalkeepers, including Joe Hart, Ben Foster and Scott Loach, GK Icon has created a multi-disciplinary training programme to help unlock the talent of future goalkeepers.
Birmingham City and England goalkeeper Ben Foster said: ‘‘This project is certainly different from anything offered before, giving participants the opportunity to develop in ways never conceived to be possible. I know how easy it is to pick up bad habits when progressing through the ranks but with the coaches recruited to help push this project I have no doubt this will be unrivalled in the world of goalkeeping."
