Harriet Key from South Herts Golf Club has won the Frilford Heath Ladies’ Scratch Salver. Harriet scored 2 under par 71 in the morning on the red course and 2 over par 72 on the green course in the afternoon to finish three shots ahead in a field of about 50 to take the prize. The 36-hole competition is played at Frilford Heath Golf Club, near Abingdon, Oxon, and is one of the premier events on the golfing calendar for female scratch golfers.
Harriet, now 20, started at South Herts when she was 11. For the past four years, she has been selected for the Herts County Ladies’ first team and has won several county and regional competitions. She plays off a handicap of one.
The club have produced other outstanding young female golfers. Emily Chan, at 16, is now down to a 5 handicap and represents the county's juniors. Marie Allen, now 30 and a qualified PGA professional, also came through the junior ranks at South Herts. She went on to win the Scottish Open at St Andrews and has also won on the WPGA circuit.
She qualified to play at St David’s on the European Tour last year.
