A star was born at the Welwyn Velodrome on Friday evening. Vince Divine, making his track debut after 20 years of road racing, burst away from the pack in the final laps of the handicap race, and won by over 50 metres. Finchley Racing had a good evening all round, with young George Olive taking a series of second places, in the ten-lap race, the handicap behind Divine, and missing out by fractions of an inch in the final 10-mile scratch race.

Back on the road on Sunday, Lee Rowe took fifth place in the Ike Saul Memorial Race in Cambridgeshire. The race was run off at an average of 27mph, and Lee was ably assisted by Simon Hime, Dermot Kealey and Nigel Stephens, who controlled the race and hunted down breakaway attempts. Rowe's fifth place won more points to keep Finchley Racing top in the Eastern League.
