There has been cause for celebration at Finchley & District Amateur Boxing Club, because a piece of history has been made.
For the first time that anyone can remember, the club can boast both male (Anthony Joshua) and female (Lucy Murphy) current ABA champions.
“People are saying we’ve made history. It’s the first time this has happened, and I do not think the ramifications have hit home yet,” said coach John Oliver.
It was 18-year-old Lucy Murphy on Sunday who made it happen, following hot on the heels of male club-mate Joshua.
She was crowned the national ABA champion at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth. Lucy, who is the daughter of famous former boxer Sean Murphy, gained a convincing points win.
“It was fantastic for Lucy to win the title,” said Mr Oliver.
“The cream on the cake was when she won the best boxer award.
“It takes a while to get my head around it. I’m over the moon for the club.”
