Barnet Copthall's Yaron Ash travelled to Israel this week to take his place in the Great Britain swimming team at the Maccabiah Games.
The Maccabiah Games is the third largest sporting event in the world, after the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games, and take place every four years in Israel. Nearly 60 countries and 10,000 athletes will compete.
Officially, 13-year-old Yaron is too young to compete at the Games, as normally entrants need to be 14, but he has been given special dispensation based on his swimming achievements.
Yaron is due to swim against the top international Jewish athletes in five freestyle and backstroke events.
On his return to Britain, he will join his Barnet Copthall team-mates at national age group championships in Sheffield, where he has qualified in six different individual events and is also a member of the relay team.
The swimming event starts on Sunday.
