Barnet head coach Dean Brennan was unimpressed by his side’s performance at Oxford City on Saturday, despite a 2-0 win allowing them to extend their unbeaten run to six games in the National League.
A delightful double from Callum Stead secured the points for the Bees in a match which often saw the visitors on the back foot, albeit creating several good chances themselves.
However, Brennan claimed there was plenty of room for improvement from his men.
“I thought it was our worst performance of the season,” Brennan told the club’s website.
“I don’t want to be disrespectful to the opposition, but we got in so many good areas and our end-product was terrible. It was shocking.
“At the end of the day, Laurie (Walker) has done brilliantly, Callum Stead did great, but we’ve got six key players out and they’re massive players for us.”
A clean sheet on the day was largely down to the heroics of goalkeeper Laurie Walker, and Brennan was keen to point out his goalkeeper’s outstanding performance.
“Laurie did brilliant. [Harry] Pritchard cleared one off the line, I think Potts [Finley Potter] cleared one off the line as well, but it shouldn’t be that way,” added Brennan, cutting a frustrated figure.
“Really, we should have been four or five up at half-time, but we weren’t and we had another few chances in the second half. The fact we have to clear balls off the line is just rubbish to be honest with you.”
A total of 450 Bees supporters made the trip to Oxford on the day, and Brennan was delighted with their backing and gave them their dues for their contribution.
“That and the three points were the best things about today. The three points and the supporters, they were amazing,” he said.
“We could hear them in fine voice. I don’t think we gave them a game to shout about, I know we won and that’s the key thing with a lot of injuries and suspensions so that’s a good sign for the group.
"I’m delighted for them, they can have a nice weekend and we’ll head up to Curzon in the FA Cup and we’ll look forward to that."
The Bees make the long trip to Curzon Ashton in the FA Cup first round, before a crunch trip to National League leaders Chesterfield the following weekend.
