Barnet sailed into the FA Cup first round after comfortably beating National League South side Aveley Town 4-0 in their replay at the Hive on Tuesday.
Despite dominating proceedings in the first half, the home side were frustrated by a deep defensive line from Aveley and nearly went behind after Tommy Davis’ whipped cross wasn’t converted by the outstretched leg of captain Matt Rush, who had got in front of Barnet centre-half Dominic Revan.
Bees talisman Danny Collinge was substituted after just 14 minutes when he went down with what looked like a muscular problem, but that didn’t stop Dean Brennan’s side from taking a deserved lead shortly before the break.
A loose ball broke to the impressive Zak Brunt who turned away from his man in the middle of the park and released an excellent pass to Nicke Kabamba. The striker eased away from Tom Stephen before expertly slotting home past Aveley goalkeeper Jonathan North.
After taking a deserved lead, the home side piled on the pressure and just a minute later, Bees winger Courtney Senior arrived infield to pick the ball up on the half turn before firing a good effort goalwards, but it wasn’t enough to trouble the flustered North who watched the ball sail behind for a goal kick.
Brennan’s side came out for the second half with the wind in their sails, and quickly established their intention to play around Aveley’s press.
They doubled their lead on 70 minutes after a contentious foul on winger Senior, as captain Dale Gorman stepped up to whip a fabulous ball to the far post where Kabamba rose highest to power a brilliant header beyond the helpless North.
Brennan’s side didn’t stop there, however, as Senior and Kabamba continued to apply pressure on the Aveley defence.
Just five minutes later, Kabamba raced away in behind and chipped a beautiful effort over the onrushing North to complete his hat-trick and put Barnet 3-0 up on the night.
And Harry Pritchard headed home from a Senior cross late on to complete the rout and send the Bees through to a meeting with Curzon Ashton on November 4.
Attentions now turn to the weekend as the north London side host National League strugglers Maidenhead United on Saturday, before welcoming Solihull Moors the Hive the following Tuesday (7.45pm).
