SWIMMING: More staff and volunteers will be needed to cope with the government's plans to provide free swimming sessions at council-run pools by 2012.
The move, which was announced last week, aims to get two million more people active by the time of the Olympics, but, with this increase, comes the massive demand for more qualified staff and volunteers across London.
Colin Brown, director of London Swimming, said: "Swimming has a huge role to play in delivering the government's agenda. However, we need to make sure we have enough coaches, volunteers and customer service staff to support these plans."
Barnet is fortunate to have one of the best swimming pools in the capital, which is also home to one of London's most successful clubs.
Barnet Copthall Swimming Club caters for competition swimmers and complete novices.
There is a programme for people wishing to learn to swim, as well as opportunities to take part in competitive swimming, diving and synchronised swimming.
A number of the club's swimmers have gone on to represent their countries at major international competitions.
GOLF: Hertfordshire have won through to the final of the English County Golf Championship at Long Ashton Golf Club, Bristol, this September.
Hertfordshire booked their place at the East region qualifying tournament in Newmarket, where they won all five of their matches.
Their closest rivals were Essex.
The Hertfordshire team consisted of Hannah Burke (Mid Herts), Charlie Field (Harpenden), Jackie Foster (Bishops Stortford), Alison Franklin (Harpenden), Lucy Glyn (Porters Park), Tina Jeary (Bishops Stortford), Harriet Key (South Herts), Steph McEvoy (Old Fold Manor), Lucinda Mileham (Aldwickbury Park) and Lucy Williams (Mid Herts).
BOWLS: Mill Hill BC saw off Welwyn BC 105-93, while the club's ladies got the better of Culver 37-31.
However, Hendon BC proved too strong for Mill Hill, running out 51-31 winners.
