Hendon 17 Old Isleworthians 6 . . .
Middlesex Federation Vase final . . .
Hendon, in front of a large crowd, pulled off a magnificent win to end their 75th anniversary season in style.
Following indifferent results in the league, the club, coached by Nick Lovett in the last few weeks, saved their best to when it mattered.
Lovett said: "I was pleased with the players' response. They played the game I wanted, and it worked. Full credit to the lads for sticking with it until the final whistle."
Hendon started well, with Jamie Connolly chasing a kick upfield. However, he was impeded, and the referee correctly awarded a penalty try, which was converted.
Chris Towndrow then crashed over to complete a fine move, before the visitors hit back with a penalty.
But Hendon stretched their lead with a penalty of their own.
The home side stayed solid after the break, with Isleworthians adding just a penalty to their score.
Meanwhile, Hendon 2nds saw off Mill Hill 15-7 to reach the Merit Table cup final and are still on course for the double.
* Hendon RFC host their annual seven-a-side tournament at Copthall this Sunday. The action starts at 1pm.
