Darren Currie felt that the poor state of the pitch at The Citadel was a key reason behind Barnet not winning their FA Trophy second round game against Farsley Celtic.
The Bees were coming up against opponents from the National League North and the pitch, as well as the conditions in general, halted them from playing their usual game, the boss felt.
They were held to a 1-1 draw, with Tyler Walton equalising for Farsley after Simeon Akinola had put Barnet in front in the first half.
Speaking after the game, Currie told the club website: “I’m obviously disappointed to not see the game out having gone 1-0 in front. I’m not going to criticise the boys today. I’m frustrated, don’t get me wrong, I’m bitterly frustrated that we haven’t gone on and won the game but I can’t give them too much criticism today because we’ve played on a really poor pitch which goes against how we want to play.
“At times, I thought we played the conditions quite well but I don’t want to make excuses, I’m not that type. It’s a difficult pitch to play on and I’m disappointed we haven’t seen the game out but we go again on Tuesday.”
On paper it may look like a disappointing draw for the Bees having been held by opponents a division below them in the league system, but Currie is determined to see the positives in the result and is confident his side can do the business in the replay.
He said: “It’s another game undefeated, it’s a difficult fixture, they’re one off games these cup games. That’s why they’re going well this year in their respective league and it’s difficult to come here and get a result.
“I don’t to make excuses. We’ve made a couple of changes today that were forced upon us, with JT [Jack Taylor] going and Harry [Taylor] getting injured, but we should have won the game, we’ll all be frustrated but we’re still in the hat and we’ll have another go at it on Tuesday.”
