Hendon 1 Staines Town 1

Ryman League Premier Division

Hendon picked up their second point in three days at Claremont Road on Monday to edge even closer to safety.

Though not mathematically safe, it would need an amazing run of results for Gary McCann's on-form troops to be relegated.

In fact, an excellent mid-table finish now beckons.

The Greens were again good value for a point.

Wayne O'Sullivan gave them a dream start when he finished a fine move, heading Jamie Busby's inviting cross into the top corner on seven minutes.

The lively O'Sullivan also came close to finding a winner in the second half, but his drive from outside the box with eight minutes to go sailed just over.

Staines had equalised just three minutes into the second period, Howard Newton rolling the ball into an empty net after keeper Richard Wilmot had pulled off a fine block.

However, Rakatahr Hudson almost restored the lead within a minute, his powerful header clipping the bar from a corner.

The second half was a more even affair, with Hendon in control for most of the opening period.

Following O'Sullivan's early strike, the Greens enjoyed most of the possession, with Belal Aiteouakrim forcing the visiting keeper to turn around a curling effort midway through the half.

Staines did not really threaten until a minute before the interval, Mark Nwokeji blazing wildly over with just Wilmot to beat.

It was not a classic encounter, but Hendon are finishing the season on a real high and are well on course for a mid-table berth, something few would have bet on earlier in the season.

HENDON: Wilmot, O'Sullivan, Vargas, Leach, Parker, BUsby, D Haule, J Burgess, Ake (Pickett 84), Hudson, Aiteouakrim. Subs not used: Archer, Rose, Morris, Rouco.

* Belal Aiteouakrim was on target in Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Heybridge Swifts.

The Greens travel to relegated Worthing this Saturday before concluding their campaign with a home match against Margate on April 28.
