RUGBY: Barnet Elizabethans saw off Grasshoppers 38-15 in London Division Four North West to put them in good mood for Sunday's Hertfordshire Trophy final.

The Byng Road outfit turned around a half-time deficit to win their final league match of the season and seal third place in the table.

Ben Linale kicked two penalties to keep them in the game going into the interval, while second-half tries from Gareth Short, Rob Elliott and Glyn Bayley (2) turned the match on its head.

Barnet meet Hemel Hempstead in Sunday's final at Old Merchant Taylors, Croxley Green (12pm).

Meanwhile, Finchley drew 10-10 with Harrow to finish fourth, level on points with Barnet.

* Hendon 2nds have gained promotion from the Herts/Middlesex Merit League.

Hendon saw off Borehamwood 14-13 on Saturday to finish second in the table.

MARTIAL ARTS: Mill Hill-based Daniel Strauss, 16, fought excellently to win silver in the adult 67kg division at the Brazilian Ju Jitsu Urban Gorillaz Grappling UK Nationals.

Daniel was in fine form and only lost the final by a close decision.

It was a tremendous achievement, as all the other fighters were adults.

Trainer Nicholas Brooks said: "I can honestly say this was by far the most mature performance Daniel has shown so far.

"His technical attacking style, along with the immense skill he possesses, turned a lot of heads.

"With the enthusiasm he shows for learning and training, there are no limits to how far Daniel can go."

BOWLS: Margaret Swift beat June Russell 21-13 to win the Ladies' Championship at Glebelands IBC.

She also won the Ladies' Handicap, beating Anne Ashmore 21-16.

Alan Cawdell retained his men's title, beating John Abson 21-11.

Consolation for Abson was in the Men's Handicap, as he beat Gary Lucas 21-16.

The Two Wood competition went to Richard Roylands, who beat Cawdell 13-12.

Roylands and Cawdell are now off to Nottingham to play in the national finals of the EIBA Men's Pairs.

DARTS: Jim Ringo' Regan will be competing at the International Darts League qualifying competition in Birmingham this Saturday.

The Irishman has his work cut out, however.

Just four players will qualify and more than 200 are expected to compete in the prestigious competition.

Hendon-based Ringo, a former jockey, admits it will be a tall order to get the better of some of the country's top players, but added: "I'm playing well at the moment and anything can happen on the day."

GOLF: Hadley Wood GC's team of rulebook experts performed well in the national final of the R&A's Rules of Golf Quiz at St Andrews.

Sadly, Roy Wood, John Bolton, Hugh Wikner and Paul Gregory were unable to repeat the form that had taken them through area and regional finals to the hallowed Royal and Ancient headquarters.

The team were beaten in the semi-final by the eventual winners.

MOTOR RACING: Barnet drivers Pat Gormley and Clive Coote made promising starts to their Avon Tyres Caterham Superlight Challenge campaigns at Oulton Park in Cheshire.

Both 32-year-old Gormley and Coote, 52, finished in the top ten in both races to provide much encouragement for the long season ahead.
