Edgware Town moved a step closer to winning promotion to Ryman League Division One North with two home wins in four days this week. The Wares have four league fixtures left, and now sit seven points clear of Harefield United in second place, although they have five games left to play.

Edgware Town 6 Oxhey Jets 1 Spartan South Midlands Premier Division

Richard Morton scored a hat-trick of penalties as Edgware played mesmerising football to crush Oxhey at the White Lion on Tuesday night.

In the first minute, Morton latched on to a lazy back pass and was dragged to the floor by Jets' keeper Kevin Paul. He stepped up to convert the spot-kick and give his side the lead.

The visitors won a penalty of their own after 17 minutes, and Gary Beadle beat Darren Bonfield in the Wares' goal to level the scores.

Morton was again pulled back by a defender in the box after 38 minutes, and again beat the keeper from the spot to make it 2-1. A minute into added time he set up Greg Ngoyi, who fired in to give the home side a healthy half-time lead.

Gavin Hart extended the lead just eight minutes into the second period, and Morton completed his hat-trick before the hour mark after substitute Adam Wallace was felled in the area.

The scoring was complete in the 75th minute when Wallace scored a great individual goal of his own.

Edgware Town 3 Royston Town 1 Spartan South Midlands Premier Division The Wares collected three valuable points at home against bottom of the league Royston Town on Saturday.

Phil Kane was full of running on the left and combined well with Adam Wallace. It was Wallace who was instrumental in the first goal, crossing for Stuart Blackburne to score shortly before the half-hour mark.

The home side's second followed five minutes later, when Blackburne found Richard Morton in the area. Although facing away from goal, the tall midfielder spun on his heel and thrashed the ball past the hapless Ken Kamata in the visitors' goal.

Royston pulled one back ten minutes into the second half, and then poured forward looking for an equaliser. It seemed unlikely Edgware would find a third goal to kill the game.

But with a few minutes left, Blackburne tricked his way into the area and was body-checked, allowing Morton to step up and win the game. Edgware travel away to Biggleswade United on Saturday, before facing Chalfont St Peter at home on Tuesday.
