Newly-formed women’s club London Bees got off to a winning start as they defeated Leeds United Ladies 3-1 in the third round of the Women’s FA Cup.
Lydia Bedford’s side will play their home matches at The Hive but travelled to Throstle Nest, home of Farsley Celtic AFC, for Saturday’s clash against Leeds.
Within four minutes, the Bees had fallen behind. An error allowed Abbie McIver in behind the defence and she slotted home. The visitors raised their performance level throughout the half and created several more chances.
Shortly before the interval, the Bees were awarded a penalty after Dawn Mallett was brought down. Sydney Hinchcliffe stepped up but blasted her spot-kick over the crossbar.
The Bees went into the interval behind but levelled two minutes after the restart. Hinchcliffe found Lily Agg and she found the net for the club’s first goal.
Within seconds they went ahead. Mallet ran at the Leeds defence, beat the last defender and struck her shot home.
The visitors added a third goal through Anneka Nuttall to ensure victory and secure a fourth round tie against either Cardiff or Bradford.
