Friday night not only saw Saracens’ secure their place in the J.P. Morgan Premiership Sevens finals but the emergence of a new star in the colours of the club.

The night saw many notable performances from players of all four London clubs however it was a newcomer to the club that really shone for the Men in Black.

Former Nottingham centre Tim Streather showed his class throughout the pool stages on Saturday night scoring three tries in the process.

If his first outing at Allianz Park is anything to go by the step up to the Premiership won’t phase Streather one bit.

Streather showed glimpses of the pace and side-stepping ability that led to him being crowned the Championship’s player of the season for 2012/2013.

At 25 years old Streather has many playing years ahead of him to show the Premiership what he can do and hopefully join the long line of success stories of those who have made the step up to the top division including Saracens’ very own Mouritz Botha.

Streather will join a very competitive back line at Allianz Park, which will only aid his development and transition in to a Premiership player.

Not only has he got England centre Brad Barritt and ever improving league convert Joel Tomkins to call on for advice, but the chance to play outside and learn from Charlie Hodgson, a man often regarded as the best passing fly-half in the league.

Things have not always been plain sailing for Streather.

The 2011/2012 season saw injury strike with the centre missing the vast majority of the campaign.

However, I believe this will only aid him in the long term, having experienced how fragile a career in professional sport can be.

First up in his quest to conquer the Premiership is the Sevens finals in Bath on Friday night which will once again provide Streather with not only an opportunity to showcase his talents but to further impress all those involved with Saracens, players, fans and coaches alike.
