When Edgar Davids joined Barnet he not only brought a new mentality but a continental philosophy.
Having played for some of Europe's biggest clubs he introduced an expansive style of football which revolves around short passing.
The favoured formation for this is 4-3-3, with the emphasis being on packing the midfield and getting men behind the ball.
While this system helped us to grind out many positive results last season, it has one significant problem; it is too defensive.
The attack is often shunned because of a more defensive mentality, leading to a lack of opportunities in the final third on many occasions.
This often saw the goal scoring pressure thrusted onto the lone man up-top - usually Jake Hyde.
Performing in that role is hard for any striker but even tougher when there is a lack of support from the people behind him.
With the Dutch contingent rightfully sticking to their philosophy many hope it will be altered to increase the attacking edge.
One way in which this can be done is by sacrificing one of the three defensive-minded midfielders for one who will add to the attack in a more advanced role.
Luisma, the versatile Spaniard who looks set to sign after impressing on-trial, appears to be a natural for this role.
His arrival will be met with much delight, due to his sublime skills, tricks and all-round play in the friendly matches he has participated in.
However, there may be another answer to the problem who is already in our ranks.
Step forward Dominic Vose. Having found appearances hard to come by the upcoming campaign could be his breakthrough season.
In the pre-season games he has played, Vose has impressed with some wholehearted performances, full of intuitiveness and creativity - two things we sometimes lack.
He sits deep to get the ball, has a good eye for a pass, and strides forward to help out the attack.
Those attributes make him different to the other centre-midfielders who prefer to sit deep and rarely venture forward.
Having attended many training sessions, Vose has stood out as one of the best players.
He has returned to pre-season in brilliant shape, good fitness and extremely determined.
You can tell how much he wants to prove himself and why he should be in the first-team. He is certainly going about it in the right way and a continuation of these standards should enable him to be given a chance.
Increasing the goalscoring capabilities in the team is one of a few key areas we need to work on in order to increase our promotion chances.
Instead of having to buy multiple players or change things drastically we can use our current resources and make a few tweaks to the system.
In Vose we have a rough diamond who we can turn into a gem.
