Two goals from former Bee Izale McLeod secured a 4-1 pre-season win for MK Dons against Barnet at The Hive Stadium.

The Bees had gone ahead thanks to a fine Jake Hyde finish but McLeod levelled the contest four minutes later with a looping header.

Three goals in three minutes then followed. The former Barnet striker added a second before a Mauro Vilhete own goal and Patrick Bamford strike completed the win.

Only one change was made to the Barnet side that started a week earlier against Ipswich Town. Hyde replaced the injury Harry Crawford in attack.

The first half was one of few clear chances. Darren Potter and Luke Gambin exchanged shots from distance that both missed the target.

The Bees passed well for the majority of the opening 45 minutes without really threatening the MK Dons defence.

The visitors also failed to test Graham Stack who watched efforts from Shaun Williams and Jason Banton clear his goal.

Barnet’s best chance of the half came in stoppage time. A fine run out of defence from Anthony Acheampong allowed him space down the left.

His cross was met by Curtis Weston and the midfielder touched the ball back for Keanu Marsh-Brown who could only shoot wide.

The Bees made a change at the interval as Acheampong was replaced by Jack Saville.

The Dons started the half brightly and Stack had to be alert to save shots from Lee Hodson and Dean Lewington.

Barnet had rarely threatened in the second period but they went ahead on the hour through Hyde. The striker received the ball on the edge of the box and curled a fine shot into the corner.

MK Dons responded by bringing on six new players, including former Bees’ McLeod and Tom Flanagan.

It was the first time McLeod had faced Barnet since leaving last summer and inevitably he levelled the game.

A cross into the penalty area was headed into the air and McLeod held of Saville and looped his header over Stack.

As the half continued the fresher MK Dons side began to take control.

They went ahead with ten minutes remaining as McLeod brought down a long pass before firing past Stack.

The lead was extended a minute later as a driving run into the penalty area from Dele Alli allowed him space to cross. The ball struck Vilhete and he could only watch it roll into his own net.

The Dons then added a fourth. Chelsea loanee Bamford collected a pass and drove at the Barnet defence. He skipped past a challenge before confidently firing past Stack.

The final score doesn’t reflect what was a fairly even game. Barnet struggled to create chances but passed the ball well and Hyde took his goal nicely.

The Bees continue their pre-season campaign on Tuesday with a trip to Hitchin.
