Goals from Jake Hyde, George Sykes, Dominic Vose and Jack Saville secured Barnet’s first victory as The Hive Stadium as the Bees defeated Hendon 4-1.
Hyde netted the first official goal at the Bees’ new home on 24 minutes and Sykes added the second from close range soon after.
Former Barnet midfielder Anthony Thomas reduced the deficit shortly before the interval but Vose restored the Bees’ two-goal lead in the second period and a late Jack Saville header completed the win.
Trialists Roberto, Luisma and Nick Jupp all started for the Bees in a much-changed side while Jake Hyde and Sykes led the Barnet attack.
Bees head coach Edgar Davids wasn’t in attendance and Ulrich Landvreugd took charge of the side.
Barnet started the contest brightly and an early header from Sykes was cleared off the line.
Iffy Allen caused the Hendon defence several problems throughout the first half and he skipped past three challenges before his strike was blocked on its way to goal.
After creating several chances, the Bees went ahead in the 24th minute. Jack Saville’s weighted pass was brought down by Sykes. He laid the ball into the path of Hyde and he confidently fired his shot into the corner.
Barnet looked likely to add a second and Sykes and Luisma both had shots pushed clear by Mike McEntegart.
The Bees did double their lead before the break as McEntegart miss-controlled a pass and Sykes was on hand to touch the ball in from close range.
Just before the interval Hendon pulled a goal back. A cross into the box found Thomas unmarked and he headed past Jupp from six yards out.
The Bees made two changes at the interval as Jamal Lowe and Ahmed Abdulla replaced Allen and Tanashe Abrahams.
The second period was fairly uneventful. Few chances were created but Sykes did come close on two occasions. His first effort was well saved before the tall striker dragged a shot wide of the post.
Barnet added a third goal midway through the half. Vose skipped past two challenges and passed to Lowe. He fired a cross into the penalty area and Vose tapped in from four yards.
Isaiah Rankin had a goal ruled out for the visitors and that was the only scare for the Bees defence in the second half.
Mauro Vilhete came close late on before Saville netted Barnet’s fourth with a towering header from a Luisma corner.
The Bees continue their pre-season campaign on Saturday as the Bees welcome MK Dons to The Hive.
