Finchley rower James Clinch admits his victory alongside Bridget Snaith at the Henley Masters Regatta was totally unexpected.
The 43-year-old, who was representing Lea Rowing Club, was victorious with Snaith in the mixed doubles C Class rowing medal on Saturday.
The duo only decided to team up five days prior to the event and Clinch said it is not always easy to form a quick partnership with another rower.
"It was only last Monday that I knew I would be rowing. I knew fitness wise I would be fine because I had competed in the Henley Royal Regatta the week before.
"But you don’t know how you can work with someone else because it doesn’t always click. Fortunately it did straight away for us and we went very well. It is great to win and it was totally unexpected."
