The Hive Stadium opened its gates for the first time this afternoon and a small group of Barnet supporters were in attendance to watch two Bees sides play out a 1-1 draw.
The ‘club day’ allowed Barnet fans the chance to watch an open training session before the Bees players were split into two sides for an hour-long 11-a-side match.
Despite the stifling hot conditions, an entertaining game was played and there was a chance for trialists Billy Lobjoit, Stefan Payne, Harry Beautyman and Marciano to impress.
The best opening of the 30-minute long first period went to the Away XI but Harry Crawford missed the chance as he had a penalty saved by Graham Stack.
In the second half further opportunities to break the deadlock were created and Jamal Lowe fired home a neat near-post finish to score the first goal at the new stadium.
It wasn’t to be the winner though as shortly before full time, youth team midfielder Zach Khlaf sent a low strike past Stack into the bottom corner.
The first official game at stadium will be played next Saturday when the Bees host Ipswich Town and there is still plenty of work to be done to get everything finished before that date.
Barnet Home XI: Stack; Abrahams, Stephens, Davids, Johnson; Weston, Vose, Lobjoit; Lowe, Payne; Sykes.
Barnet Away XI: Cowler; Vilhete, Saville, Acheampong, Brown; Byrne, Crawford (Khlaf 52), Beautyman; Gambin, Marsh-Brown; Marciano.
