Earlier this week, like many intrigued Barnet fans, I went along to The Hive for a first glance at the stadium, which is still being built. as well as to check out the facilities it has to offer.

This was the first chance for us to look around our new home and it did not fail to impress.

The facilities are of an outstanding quality. The stands have taken shape fantastically and you are greeted by a barrage of black and amber seats in the West Stand.

It is a fantastic set-up which gives the club a vast number of opportunities to increase the coffers - from banqueting suites to the gym - with this money able to  be reinvested back into the club and make us a stronger force on the pitch.

Upon entering the ground, there is a massive poster featuring Barnet legends welcoming you to The Hive. One of those faces on the poster of Edgar Davids.

On Friday, he gave his biggest indication yet that he will be staying at the club, to the delight of us fans, who have been waiting for weeks for this confirmation.

He put on Twitter: "Float like a butterfly, sting like a ...". When asked by a fan whether this was a "code for him staying at Barnet", the former Holland captain responded with a smiley face.

While we wait for an official announcement on this, the club have confirmed the first batch of players staying at the club next season.

The five players who have been kept on for next season are: Graham Stack, David Stephens, Mauro Vilhete, Luke Gambin and Harry Crawford.

All of these players could form the nucleus of a side challenging for promotion. Stack and Stephens should rank as the best players in their positions, based on their outstanding performances in League Two.

Gambin could be pivotal for us on the wing, with him being both creative and a bundle of energy when played last season.

Retaining these three players is a masterstroke, with all of them endearing themselves to the Barnet faithful last season with many phenomenal performances and always giving 110 per cent.

It is Vilhete and Crawford, though, who could make names for themselves. The former has yet to live up to the promise when he first emerged from the youth academy; while the latter scored 13 goals in 26 appearances for Dartford in the Conference last season.

Both have the chances to make an impression and they have the talent to make an impact on the team.

The only negative in the past week has been a confirmation of what we already expected.

This is the likely departure of tricky winger Ricky Holmes, who is attracting the interest of clubs in the higher echelons, such as Leyton Orient and Gillingham.

With the first signs of building for next season, our intent and ambition is evident.

More announcements are bound in the next week and let's hope one of them is the confirmation of Davids staying.
