Edgar Davids admitted Barnet’s 1-0 over AFC Wimbledon was “ugly” and praised the Bees defence which kept a fourth straight clean sheet.
The Dons created the better chances throughout the game while Barnet struggled to threaten.
However, with five minutes of normal time remaining, debutant Keanu Marsh-Brown broke through the home side's defence and his low shot beat John Sullivan.
Graham Stack had to produce a terrific reflex save to deny Gary Alexander late on and the Bees held on to collect a vital three points.
Reflecting on the game, Davids said: “Everything was ugly. The pitch was ugly, the game as ugly and the goal was ugly. But you have got to take things as they come.
“The defence were put to the test. We were leaning on the defence because the pitch was horrible.
“The defence were solid and they have been for a few games. I now hope that the offence can repay them in the next match.”
On the impact of Marsh-Brown, the Bees head coach added: “He is a young talent. He came in and did very well. He has trained very well with us and, if you practice well during the week, you will be given an opportunity.
“It is important when you come off the bench that you show the coach that you deserve to be in the starting line-up. He did that.”
