Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall said he was "chuffed" for Jacques Burger after the Namibian flanker played for the first time in 14 months against Wasps on Saturday.
The flanker came off the bench for the last 20 minutes in Sarries' 22-13 victory having completed a long and painful road to recovery from a knee injury which Burger spoke to the Times Series about earlier this month.
And McCall, who had told Burger he would be coming on against Wasps before the match, said both he and the squad were delighted for the forward.
"It was just such a big moment," McCall said. "The changing room was buzzing for Jacques at the end.
"I don't think anybody appreciates how really complicated the injury was that he had.
"He's been out for nearly 16 or 17 months - it was a big deal for Jacques - he was really nervous beforehand.
"We guaranteed him 20 mnutes at the end and I'm chuffed that he's come on, I'm chuffed that he's chucked himself around and thrown himself into a few tackles - it's good to have him back."
Burger's reaction to making his long-awaited return against Wasps will be in the newspaper on Thursday.
