Chris Wyles insists Saracens are desperate to reclaim the J.P. Morgan Premiership Rugby 7s Series title this year– even more so now that their Allianz Park home is hosting a round.

The 29-year-old American international didn’t feature as Sarries won the inaugural Series crown in 2010 but was part of the squad that progressed out of the pool stage last year.

He wasn’t called upon for the Series Final, which saw Saracens lose the title match to Newcastle, however he did return last year as Saracens once again made the last six.

Sarries didn’t reach the final that time while this year they will host the Pool C fixtures, which sees them pitted against Harlequins, Wasps and the defending champions London Irish.

Saracens are still in contention in the Aviva Premiership and Heineken Cup this season, having lost in the LV= Cup semi-finals, and Wyles admits they are determined to win the Series just as much as those.

“I had a great two years playing in the tournament. There’s good quality players and good quality opposition and long may that continue,” said Wyles – who has played 31 Tests for the USA.

“I think the tournament has just gone from strength to strength and from a Saracens point of view we’ve got it at Allianz Park, which will be a great event.

“I think the reason why the tournament is doing so well is that clubs see it as a way of winning silverware at the start of the season, we certainly feel that way, we’ve won it once and we take it very seriously.

“I know we were devastated not to make the final and not to win some silverware last season, so we’ll be coming back next season and trying our very best to win it.

“We work on our rotation system, there are a lot of pre-season games and we see sevens as a key part of that build up to the start of the season.

“Players put their hands up and I think a lot of players want to play in the 7s events and that just shows how strong the tournament is.”

As well as hosting the Pool C fixtures on August 3, Allianz Park was the venue for the launch and draw of the J.P. Morgan Premiership Rugby 7s Series on Monday with Wyles in attendance.

Saracens officially opened the doors to Allianz Park on February 16 with a 31-11 defeat of Exeter and Wyles believes the artificial pitch will allow for plenty of sevens excitement.

“Obviously as an event here at Saracens with the artificial pitch we can expect a very fast sevens game, if it’s not fast enough already, you can expect it even faster,” he added.

“For anyone in the squad it’s a great chance to show the coach how well you’re playing and how well, potentially, you’re ready for the first game of the season and to put your hand up for the first XV.”

The third leg of J.P Morgan Premiership Rugby 7s will be at Allianz Park, the home of Saracens, on Saturday 3 August. For tickets and more information visit: wwwjpmorgan7s.com or follow @jpmorganrugby7s
