Barnet runner Michael Martin battled through sleet and snow on Saturday to win the Oakhill parkrun.

Martin came home in a time of 20.16 which was a new record for the new certified 5k course.

After his victory he said: “I think it’s a better course, the finish is very fast but it was slippery in places today.”

Stuart Singer crossed the line in second place and stopped the clock in 22.06. His performance was his best at the event in 46 appearances.

First junior across the line was Saam-Kyu Smart in 22.27 and Frank Martin of Penny Lane Striders clocked 22.43.

The first female home was the improving Maria Pereverzina with 23.34, denying Yee-Yewt Smart a ninth win in the event. Cathy Bunt was third with 28.26.

Tim Graves was the only athlete to secure a personal best as many athletes struggled with the wintry conditions.

The Oak Hill parkrun takes place every Saturday at 9am and is open to all ages and abilities.
