Javelin thrower Aidan Reynolds has been in impressive form this year and the Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers competitor clinched a new British junior record at the World Indoor Throws Meeting.

Under-20 athlete Reynolds, who only joined Harriers last year, produced a strong performance at the event in Sweden and his throw of 67.56m proved to be enough to take top spot.

The result means he is ranked first in the UK Under-20 rankings and also set a meeting record.

Zane Duquemin was also in action and competed in both the discus and the shot putt.

The Under-23 competitor threw a season’s best 56.13m in the discus and is ranked number one in the UK in his age category this year.

Chris Scott finished one place behind Duquemin but his season’s best throw of 55.04m was enough to rank him second in the UK in 2013.

In the shot, Duquemin was ten centimetres short of a new personal best and had to be content with a throw of 18.40m.

Jade Nicholls opened her season with a second place finish in the discus. Her throw of 55.08m was enough to rank the Barnet athlete first in the UK this year.

The Hertfordshire Indoor Championships were held in conjunction with the Middlesex Championships over the weekend and several of Shaftesbury’s competitors produced winning performances.

Under-20 athlete James Sothcott was victorious in the 800m, while Adam Shiret (Under-15) also clinched top spot in the 800m.

Kyle Langford took first in the Under-20 1500m and new member Tim Buckle (Under-20) was first in the high jump.

Kate Jones (Under-20) took a gold medal in the high jump, while there was double success for Yasmin Lakin as she was victorious in both the long jump and the triple jump.

Jessica Hurley claimed a silver medal in the Under-15 800m, while Mohamed Charkaoui-Essouni was first in the 1500m.

Under-17 athlete Jonas Chor clinched a gold medal in the long jump as did Tarlia Bird (Under-17). Nneka Ofulue finished in top spot in the Under-23 shot putt.

At Sunday’s Reading Half Marathon, Neil Gamester continued his recovery from injury and clocked an impressive personal best.

The distance runner is slowly rediscovering his best form and came home in tenth place with a time of 66.58.

Daniel Davies stopped the clock in 75.08 which was enough for 81st, while there was a season’s best for Anthony Jackson.

His time of 75.14 helped him record an 82nd-place finish, while Stuart Singer also clinched a season’s best time of 92.20.
