Elliot Johnson admitted he would have traded his first professional goal for a Barnet victory at Accrington Stanley.

The 18-year-old left-back, who has been one of the Bees’ most consistent performers since making his debut for the club in November, volleyed home from close range in the 3-2 defeat at Stanley.

Barnet were 3-0 down when Johnson netted and his celebration was understated due to the scoreline.

He explained: “I am pleased to get my first goal but it would have been better in different circumstances.

“I would have liked to celebrate a little bit but I understood than we needed to get back into position and get on with the game.

“We did well in the second half but we couldn’t get that equaliser. To be honest I would've swapped my goal for a win.”

Due to their superior goal difference Barnet are not bottom of the League Two table. However, five teams are currently on 40 points with just eight games to play.

The Bees next three league matches are all at Underhill and Johnson is targeting seven points from those matches.

“Away from home you just want to get as many points as you can. We need to make it count at home. We have three home games and we need to get seven points from those matches.

“In front of the home crowd I think we are able to take anyone on. We have great fans and they travel home and away.

“At the home games it really helps when the crowd get behind us and I think it gives us much more confidence in the games.”
