Edgar Davids believes there were “a lot of positive things” to take from Barnet’s 3-2 defeat at Accrington Stanley but acknowledged his side’s start to the game wasn’t good enough.
Barnet were 3-0 behind after just 34 minutes as Lee Molyneux fired in a first half hat-trick.
The Bees pulled a goal back shortly before the interval through Elliot Johnson and produced an impressive second half display.
Ross Jenkins scored a fantastic overhead kick to further reduce the deficit just after the hour mark.
The momentum was with Barnet but five minutes before full time Davids was sent off after receiving a second booking.
Barnet still pushed forward but were unable to find the equaliser.
Reflecting on the game, Davids said: “There were a lot of positive things but the bottom line is that we have to eliminate the errors. Those are the important lessons.
“You think at 3-0 the game is over but we came back and we nearly got the equaliser.
“But we need to start immediately and not after 30 minutes. We need to commit less errors than the opponents.”
On his red card, Davids continued: “I didn’t make the foul. It was another player who committed the foul. So we will have to try and appeal on that one.
“We were poor but so was the linesman on that occasion. But you don’t give them the opportunity to influence the game that much if you play well.”
Just a single point separates the bottom six sides in League Two and Davids admits Barnet are making the relegation battle harder for themselves.
He said: “When I came in we were so far behind but we have fought back into the battle. We got into 18th place and maybe we got a little bit comfortable.
“So we are back into the battle. We are doing it the Barnet way and it is always the difficult way.”
