Mark Byrne believes the Bees need to show “fighting spirit” against Morecambe tomorrow in order to gain an important three points in their relegation battle.
The last time the Bees took on the Shrimps they suffered a 4-1 loss at the Globe Arena. It is the heaviest defeat since Edgar Davids made his debut for the club in October.
Byrne believes that the Bees “owe Morecambe one” and feels Barnet’s home form will be vital in their bid to avoid the drop.
He added: “We have played well recently at Underhill. The crowd were great in the last home game as well and we need to show that fighting spirit to get out of this.”
Bees head coach Edgar Davids said that he would like to avenge the loss and added: “I hope that we can pick ourselves up (from the Plymouth defeat) and play how I know we can play. We still need the points.
“We need to focus on the next game, which is against Morecambe, we have had a week of rest now and a week on the training ground where we could readjust certain things.
With 11 matches remaining, just six points separate the bottom nine sides in League Two.
Davids admits Barnet “lost an opportunity” last weekend to open up a gap between themselves and the Plymouth.
“We had a bad result and have put ourselves back in the position you don’t want to be,” he added.
The Bees have been without influential midfielder John Oster since the 2-1 victory at York City due to a hamstring injury
When asked after the defeat to Plymouth if the Bees have missed Oster’s creativity in midfield, Davids replied: “It could be but we have won games and played well without John Oster. So I do not think that is the problem.
“He might be back next weekend but I do not think that is my biggest problem right now. Other players can play there and can still do it right.”
Oster will again be absent this week and top scorer Jake Hyde is a doubt after coming off at halftime in the defeat to Plymouth.
Craig Beattie, Jon Nurse and Ismail Kamara could make a return to the squad and Watford loanee Ross Jenkins is in line to make his debut for the Bees after joining the club this week.
