Barnet Ladies have applied for a place in the Women's Super League in 2014 but the team will seemingly be called London Bees.

The FA confirmed the 33 teams that have submitted an application to join the league today with Barnet referred to as London Bees WFC.

Barnet Ladies currently play in the Women's Premier League but will look join the country's elite sides from next year.

The Women's Super League currently features just eight teams but, as part of the FA's five-year plan to develop the women's game, the league will split into two leagues which comprises of 20 sides with a promotion and relegation system.

Should the club's bid be successful, the Bees first team will become a semi-professional side and play their home matches at The Hive Football Centre in Edgware. Super League matches will also receive television coverage.

The season would run between March and October with games being usually being held on a Sunday.

Graham Slyper, Barnet FC’s director with responsibility for the Ladies team, told the club's website: "A successful application will see a transformation of women’s football at Barnet FC including the improved calibre of our players and the facilities available to them at The Hive, the raised TV profile of the female game, and the entire match-day experience.

"We now look forward to participating in the remainder of the detailed adjudication process."
