Ryman League Division One North round-up

Wingate & Finchley saw off Witham Town 2-1 in Essex on Tuesday night.

It was another much-needed win for the Blues.

Adam Lee's side have had an indifferent start to the campaign, but this was their second league win on the trot and lifts them into a much more comfortable mid-table position.

Wingate were good value for the win and will have high hopes of gaining another three points this Saturday, when they make the trip to bottom club Flackwell Heath.

Potters Bar Town were undone by a last-minute goal in their 1-0 defeat at Ware.

Though they did not threaten the home goal too often, they looked quite comfortable at the back for long periods.

The first half produced few chances. James Dickie was forced to clear one effort off the line, while debutant Michael Black shot over for Town at the other end.

There were more chances after the break, but neither side could find a way through.

For Potters Bar, Gabriel Fanibuyan saw a curling effort deflected away, while Curtis Johnson shot over.

Richard Howard then saw the keeper smother a shot from close range.

Richard Hayward produced some good saves to keep Potters Bar in it, but Ware turned up the heat in the final ten minutes, launching wave after wave of attacks.

With just 30 seconds of stoppage time remaining, Steve Horsey got on the end of a long pass from the right to shoot first time beyond Hayward from just outside the box.

Potters Bar host fellow strugglers Tilbury on Saturday.
