Scout groups in Barnet have been handed a little piece of the Olympic legacy in the form of £500 worth of cooler boxes from corporate sponsors.
Coca Cola donated ten of its large drinks containers to four Scout units in the borough after being approached by one of the leaders.
Cub Scout leader at the 6th Friern Barnet group Debi Rush was working near a hotel being used by the drinks corporation during the Games.
The volunteer boldly asked if the sponsorship team might donate a couple to her Scout group after the Games but was amazed when ten turned up at her doorstep a few weeks later.
She said: “I was absolutely delighted and surprised. These donations are the only way we can continue to provide activities and keep costs down for parents.
“It means children are still able to get out on camps and other exciting, fun activities.”
Mrs Rush has given some of the boxes to other Scout divisions 11th Finchley, 3rd Friern Barnet and 4th East Barnet.
Her own unit, made up of 80 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, are going on camp in October and will use the boxes to keep dairy products and meat cold.
She added: “You don’t always have a fridge handy in the middle of a field so they are important. I’m really pleased.”
