A young fashion designer from Colindale has started a road safety petition following the death of his friend in a motorbike crash last week.
Sachin Patel, 26, of Colin Gardens, is calling for Crossway to have yellow lines on the inside of a bend to prevent people parking on both sides of the road creating a blind corner.
He set up an online petition on Friday and has already gathered 118 signatures.
Mr Patel decided to start the petition, which he intends to hand to Barnet Council, after his friend, 25-year-old Amir Mustafa Mohyuddin, died on July 17.
Mr Mohyuddin, a minicab driver who lived in Hillfield Avenue with his wife, was test driving a motorbike when he swerved to avoid an oncoming car and hit a wall.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr Patel, who hopes to get two thousand signatures on his petition, said: “Someone has to do something about this now.
“There is no reason for people to park there as no one lives there. It is just overflow parking.
“I’d rather a life was saved than that we had some extra parking.
“I imagine there will be a bit of a conflict but we have to show that this parking caused our friends death.
“In my opinion double yellow lines are the only option now.”
A number of Mr Mohyuddin’s other friends also believe that the road he died on has become dangerous.
One said: “This road has become very dangerous. Cars are often test driven on this road but it is too narrow.
“People shouldn’t be allowed to park on both sides of the street on a bend.”
A council spokesman said: “The council will certainly investigate any location where safety concerns have been raised and will look at this junction to see if any improvements to sight lines might be an appropriate preventative measure.”
