An optometrist from Barnet is to carry the Olympic Torch on Wednesday.
Dr Zahra Jessa, 31, who has always lived in the borough, was chosen for her work with Action for Blind People in Kings Cross.
Dr Jessa, of Hemington Avenue, Friern Barnet, has worked for the charity since 2010 and splits her time between hospital optometry, low vision clinics and independent practice.
She specialises in helping people with visual impairment make the most of their remaining vision.
She says: “I feel privileged and honoured to be part of putting my home borough of Barnet on the Olympic map.
“I am really excited to be part of such a memorable, once in a lifetime event and sharing this moment with my family, friends and the local community.”
Dr Jessa also helps to care for her two older sisters who have profound learning disabilities and was awarded the Professional of the Year accolade at the Asian Women of Achievement Awards in 2010.
