A campaign inspiring people to give more to charity was launched at Brent Cross Shopping Centre yesterday.
Hundreds of people pledged to give money and time to good causes.
A wall in the centre is covered with photos of supporters and their promises.
The event was held to mark the launch of Give More, a new UK-wide campaign seeking to encourage charitable giving.
Shoppers at Brent Cross were inspired to sign up by volunteers from Age UK in Camden and the local branch of the Meningitis Research Foundation.
Beverley De Monick, a volunteer at Age UK Camden, said: “I’m a volunteer, because I am passionate about older people and love being able to make a difference through what I do at Age UK.
“You only have to look around to see that need is going up and people of all types are really struggling.
“That’s why this campaign is so important. If we can inspire people to give more, it would make a huge difference. Today is a great first step.”
The campaign was launched on the back of new research by YouGov, which highlights the appetite many people have to give more money, time or energy to the causes they care about.
This research showed that 65 per cent of Londoners have given to charity in the last six months and that 46 per cent feel that charitable need has increased in the past 12 months.
