PARENTS ferrying their children to and from a nursery “live in fear” of council parking wardens with “no common decency”, a resident says.
Jon Skapoullis, 46, of Edwyn Close, Barnet, was handed a £55 fine after stopping outside Woodlands Nursery, in Elm Road, for only a few minutes to drop off his two-year-old son, just after 8am on Wednesday morning.
He said he is not the only one and a large number of mother and fathers are upset about being ticketed in similar circumstances and he is now collecting a petition.
He said: “We all live in fear of taking our children to nursery and picking them up. I even left a note on the window to say I’m dropping off my children.
“There’s no leniency and there’s no common decency.”
He added: “We speak to the wardens, we try to explain and they just don’t want to know. It’s almost impossible to drop your child off.”
The nursery has backed Mr Skapoullis, giving him a letter from a manager confirming his son’s attendance at Woodlands and calling for “leniency”.
The Times-series contacted Barnet Council for a response this afternoon and is awaiting a reply.
