A TEENAGER from Totteridge won a national tap dance competition at the weekend.

Rosie Bretherton was presented with the Daphne Peterson Premier Award at the Marjorie Davies Tap Awards on Sunday March 27.

Around 40 competitors took part in the competition which involved learning and performing three choreographed pieces in front of a panel of judges at artsdepot in North Finchley.

The competitors then had to perform their own two minute solo tap dance.

Rosie is an A Level student at Queen Elizabeth’s Girls’ School in Barnet but hopes to secure a place at a dance college in September.

The 17-year-old has been dancing since she was four years old and currently studies ballet, modern, tap, street, commercial and national dance as well as musical theatre.

She attends The North London Dance Studio in Winchmore Hill and travels to Reading for weekend training sessions at Tap Attack Youth Company as part of the England tap dance team.

After receiving a cup, medal and certificate Rosie said: “I can’t believe it.

“I feel so lucky to have won this amazing competition.”

Speaking about her goals, she added: “I would love to get into a fantastic dance school.

“My aim is to dance in the West End, tour the UK with a major production and travel the world.”
