A SENSORY room for young people with learning and physical disabilities was officially opened in Finchley yesterday.
Philip Green Memorial Trust provided £30,000 in aid of the play and therapy facility at Buckets & Spades Lodge in Fairholme Gardens.
The room contains a heated water bed, sound system, mirrors, bean bags, coloured fibre optic and UV lights, a rocking chair and a wall carpet with LED lights to represent a starry sky.
The equipment will allow the young people to channel their energy within a safe area and stimulate their sense of touch, sight and sound.
The Trust has supported Norwood charity, which runs the Lodge, since 1990 and has also provided funding for soft play equipment.
Norma Brier, chief executive of Norwood said: “Parents have been telling us for a while these facilities would be a welcome addition to the Lodge.
“We are delighted we are now able to offer such a beneficial and enjoyable experience through this new wonderfully equipped facility.
“In this challenging economic climate, it is only through such outstanding support that we will be able to meet the increasing demand for new facilities and expand our life-changing opportunities for children and adults.”
