I wish to draw attention to the recent decision by Barnet Council to remove the traffic lights from two junctions at the crossroads of High Road and Oakleigh Road North, in Whetstone.

The reasoning being that the volume of accidents has not altered since the traffic lights were erected.

While this may well be true, pedestrians face the problem of having nowhere to cross the road.

Perhaps the council wants to turn this green part of London into a speedway, where the only voices that count, pay car tax and shop at Tesco Express.

What kind of community do we want to live in and raise children in? Big society? More like big car society.
